An Evening Visitor

Last night we were just finishing a game of cards when we heard a bang from the second cabin. I thought it was something in a tree throwing fruits or sticks on the roof, but Tom insisted that the noise was something being knocked down in the cabin. He took his machete and the spotlight and went to check it out. He called me just a couple of minutes later and told me to come to the cabin with the camera, because he had found the visitor. She parked herself in the peak of the cabin, wrapping her tail around a stud for support. We know it was a she because we could see the little babies’ butts and tails moving in her pouch; you can see one if you look just below her hand on the stud. Tom took his driving whip and whistled and cracked it until she unwrapped her tail and climbed down – headfirst – and went out the door, into the bush, and up a tree.
