It's a wild, wild life

Every once in a while we think we've pushed back the jungle and we're living in relative civilization. But, every once in a while the jungle pushes back and lets us know that it's all an illusion...like this morning, when we let the dogs out and they ran barking into the jungle. I marched into the jungle, grabbed Kitty (our loaner dog at the moment) and marched her out of the jungle. I put her down, and she ran back into the jungle. Tom went after her, and came out asking if I was blind, because she'd been barking directly at this boa eating an agouti.

The boa had the agouti all the way down and was heading back into deeper jungle in about an hour...but I think I'll be keeping the dogs close to the house for the rest of the day!

Hi Marge,

I saw this once with a Timber Rattler up in the Smoky Mtns. The snake was only three feet long but had eaten something the size of a small rabbit and was so grossly swollen that it could hardly move. As kids (we were Scouts camping for the weekend) would do we tried throwing our knives at it but no one was very good and we didn't have the courage to run and get our knife back if the aim was pretty good so the snake managed to slowly crawl off into the woods to spend several days eating what it had already swallowed...

Do you ever see the Fer De Lance? I have heard that they are around Belize??

Julian,

Yes, we do occasionally see the Fer De Lance (probably the most common poisonous snake here in Belize) but we don't like to talk too much about that!
