Belize to appear on NBC’s Today Show

Tom stopped by the Zoo last Tuesday, and everybody was buzzing because NBC’s Today Show had just been there over the weekend filming for a feature scheduled to air on Monday, November 17 or Tuesday, November 18. From what our friends at the Zoo said, the feature was about the Zoo, but now the whole country is buzzing because the spot is on all of Belize, so the Today Show crew were spotted all over the country – which is even better.

So tune in to the Today Show this Monday and Tuesday, and if you miss it then, I’ll post links on our websites, and I know a link will be posted on the Zoo’s website – and probably on every other Belize website.

I know that on Monday, November 17, 2008, NBC is starting the "Ends of the Earth" feature and the four key personnel on the show will embark on lengthy road trips to illustrate environmental stories. I saw Meredith just now on our TV in Australia reporting on drought, and there were pictures and statements made that Matt is exploring the natural beauty of Belize, Al is in the geologically active Iceland and Ann is climbing Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro before the snow melts.

As much as I think the idea is a great one, I think the timing of this is absolutely horrible. Are any of you aware of the financial crisis we are in both in the US and globally??? Are any of you aware of how many people are out of work with no money, people losing their homes, businesses closing and retirees who have worked so hard in order to enjoy their retirement are in financial crisis as well.

If you wanted to do this series, why not look around right here in the U.S. and use the rest of the money you would have saved for people in real need!!! There must be an ulterior motive that you sent these 4 people to these far away places.

I have been an avid follower of NBC’s Today Show for absolutely years. I love the Today Show. Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to continue watching the Today Show after hearing and reading about this upcoming week and the money you are spending to make this happen with the “Ends of the Earth” feature.

Joy - I'm not sure why you're reacting so strongly about this. Yes, NBC spent a lot of money on this. Yes, lots of people out there could have found a more practical use for the money. But the TV business is a business, and they spend the money where they see fit. At least this series had an environmental slant so it has some redeeming value for human-kind. If you want to get wound up about TV networks throwing lots of money around, why don't you start now and try to get some movement going to cancel the Super Bowl?
